Music Education Programs for Scouts

LO FAMILY Concerts
The Louisville Orchestra Family Series is a musical adventure for scouts in grades K-8. Join the LO at Old Forester’s Paristown Hall as we tell the tales of the orchestra and musical instruments weaving storytelling, interactive games, and music in creative new ways. Learn more

MakingMUSIC Musician Performance/Demonstration
An individual LO musician presents a 45-min program at your location: plays and demos their instrument, discusses their career/background, and participates in Q&A. Musician visits are great for scouts in grades 2-6 working on music, arts, and STEAM badges. Troop is also provided access to over 20 video demonstrations of all the instruments in a traditional orchestra!
Dates/Times: October 2022–May 2023 (subject to musician availability)
Cost: $250*
MakingMUSIC Small Ensemble Performance
Small musician ensembles present a 45-minute program that includes various musical concepts traditionally reviewed in elementary. Experience is designed to expose scouts to a variety of instrumental music and themes, familiarize them with the instruments of the orchestra, and provide an opportunity to meet with professional orchestra musicians. The performance takes place at your location and is ideal for scouts in grades 2-6 working on music, arts, and STEAM badges. Troop is also provided access to over 20 video demonstrations of all the instruments in a traditional orchestra!

Cost: $500–$1,250*
Once Upon an Orchestra Ensemble Performance
Bring the LO’s new family concert series to your troop meeting or event! Appropriate for scouts in grades K-3 and multigenerational family events, small musician ensembles present 30-min interactive storytelling-through-music performances that inspire and foster a greater interest in music and creativity. After the performance, scouts/families can make an instrument from recycled materials.
Dates/Times: October 2022–May 2023 (subject to musician availability)
Cost: $600–$1,350* (Cost will be determined by the number of musicians in the group)
LO Classics Concerts
From Stravinsky and Beethoven to world premieres and commissioned works by modern composers, middle/high school scouts will enjoy the full symphony experience at LO Classics Concerts. Concerts are presented at Whitney Hall at The Kentucky Center. Study guides are available and an optional concert talk precedes each performance. Learn more
