LO Family Series

Orchestrate a family musical adventure with the LO Family Series. These one-hour concerts are presented at Old Forester’s Paristown Hall and introduce the thrill of the orchestra to youngsters. Programs are designed for ages 4 to 12 years. Each performance weaves storytelling, interactive games, and music in creative new ways. LO staff and volunteers lead hands-on crafts and activities prior to each performance.

ONCE UPON AN ORCHESTRA

In partnership with the Louisville Free Public Library, Metro Louisville and the Library Foundation, the Louisville Orchestra presents Once Upon an Orchestra, free concert series for multigenerational families featuring fun, interactive storytelling-through-music performances. The text from favorite children’s books as well as original stories are set to music performed by small LO ensembles – engaging children with the goals of increasing readiness for school and laying a foundation for a greater interest in music and creativity. Prior to each performance, families are invited to make an instrument from recycled materials to play along during the show. View the complete schedule at LFPL.org/Orchestra.

The 2022-23 Once Upon an Orchestra series features the following beloved children’s stories:

The Very Hungry Caterpillar – Musical score by LO Creators Corps composer TJ Cole

Mina – Musical score by LO Creators Corps composer Tyler Taylor

Music of the Sea – Musical score by LO Creators Corps composer TJ Cole

Where the Wild Things Are – Featuring music by Béla Bartók and Ludwig van Beethoven

Peter and the Wolf – Story and music by Sergei Prokofiev

Trip to the Musical Zoo – Featuring excerpts from The Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saëns
