Maria Semes

First violin Maria Semes is a member of both the Louisville Orchestra and the NouLou Chamber Players. She has performed as concertmaster of the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra, The Juilliard Orchestra, and the Spoleto USA orchestra.She has also been a member of the Britt Festival Orchestra, the Aspen Music Festival and School Orchestras, and the New World Symphony. She has performed as a soloist with the Shanghai Philharmonic and the Macau Youth Orchestra.  Semes performs extensively on chamber music on both the violin and the viola including performances in Juilliard’s ChamberFest, at the Juilliard Commencement in Alice Tully Hall, at the Luzerne Music Center, and in the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. Semes earned her Bachelor and Master of Music from The Juilliard School under the direction of David Chan and Naoko Tanaka. While at school, Maria was an active participant in community engagement where she taught and performed. She was a recipient of the Morse Fellowship where she taught violin and viola lessons in NYC public schools, the Gluck Community Service Fellowship and the New Orleans ArtReach Project.
