Wednesday, October 23, 2024 7:30pm

Event Description

Gabriel Lefkowitz, conductor

Dive into a night of thrilling suspense with the Louisville Orchestra’s (Un)Silent Film: Nosferatu on October 23. Watch the iconic silent film ‘Nosferatu (1922)’, a masterpiece of horror that tells the eerie tale of Count Orlok, a vampire from Transylvania who brings terror and plague upon his quest for a new home and a fresh victim. This chilling tale comes alive like never before with a haunting live score by Sebastian Chang, performed by the mesmerizing Louisville Orchestra during the film. After a spellbinding world premiere last year, this masterpiece returns for its second annual performance, promising an evening where music and shadow meld into an unforgettable spectacle. Grab your tickets for this unique blend of gothic horror and harmonic beauty.

Sebastian Chang, composer for ‘Nosferatu’ describes the piece, “It took a couple of months to complete the original score. The piece uses different motifs to represent different characters. Because there’s no dialogue it depends entirely on the music to feed the audience the emotions that I want them to lean towards when they’re viewing the film. I did a short score of about four staves, and then I expanded that out to orchestration. My inspiration came from all the great composers of the Classical tradition, and probably all of the old Hollywood scores, from the 50s or the 70s.”
