The Louisville Orchestra’s Music Without Borders series brings free, live orchestral performances to neighborhoods across our community, making world-class music accessible to everyone. This installment, Myths and Legends, explores stories from different cultures and traditions through a dynamic program led by conductor Gabriel Lefkowitz.
The concert opens with Beethoven’s Creatures of Prometheus Overture, a powerful work inspired by the Greek myth of the fire-bringer. Creator Corps composer, Brittany J. Green’s In the Beginning offers a contemporary interpretation of creation and origin stories. Trumpeter Noah Dugan takes the stage for Arutiunian’s Trumpet Concerto, blending lyrical melodies with bold, dramatic passages.
Vocalist Christella Philippe brings a unique perspective to the program, performing Sous le Ciel d’Haiti, a French song that reflects her Haitian heritage, along with two original works arranged by former Creator Corps Composer, Tanner Porter. The program concludes with Albert Roussel’s Suite No. 2 from Bacchus et Ariane, a vivid retelling of the myth of Ariadne and Bacchus, brought to life through dramatic and colorful orchestration.
