The LO is proud to partner with area schools, community organizations, and the general public to educate, inspire, and foster long-lasting relationships with the arts, specifically the diverse and cross-genre world of orchestral music.

Rap School
The Louisville Orchestra is proud to partner with Hip-Hop Based Education organization, Hip-Hop N2 Learning (HHN2L) for the LO Rap School. Each season, a new class of students receives lessons through a series of workshops with local social justice educators, hip-hop artists, and musicians to create their own rap lyrics that they will perform live on stage with the full orchestra at the LO’s annual MakingMUSIC education concerts. Through this innovative program, local students from all levels are introduced to a variety of programs led by HHN2L founders Nyree Clayton-Taylor and Antonio “T” Taylor all which focus on creating, producing, and performing music that promotes social justice and community activism. LO Creators Corps
The Louisville Orchestra Creators Corps is a new model for how artists/composers/creators can collaborate with a symphony orchestra in the 21st century. The LO will invite three individual creators each year to move to Louisville for 30-48 weeks. Throughout their residencies, they will compose new works to be performed by the LO and participate in educational and community engagement projects. These can include works in collaboration with Louisville-based organizations, partnerships with local schools and students, site-specific installations involving the community, and working on any of the LO’s existing education or public programs.
LO Conducting School
LO Music Director Teddy Abrams and guest conductors are available to lead a limited number of masterclasses with middle and high school music students. Contact the LO Education team to discuss options and availability.
The LO Conducting School also offers the Young Conductors program through our MakingMUSIC partnership with JCPS. Through this program, students attending the MakingMUSIC education concerts are eligible to be nominated to learn the art of conducting, then represent their school and debut their skills on stage during the performance.
Young Artist Competition
The Association of the Louisville Orchestra, Inc. invites young musicians from grades 5 to 12 to compete for cash awards and for the opportunity to perform as soloists with the Louisville Orchestra. Learn more
Concert Talks
Prior to each Coffee Series and Classics Series concert, patrons are invited to attend a free 45-min CONCERT TALK with local experts and musicians about their unique perspectives on the upcoming performance.
