Public Programs

The LO is proud to partner with area schools, community organizations, and the general public to educate, inspire, and foster long-lasting relationships with the arts, specifically the diverse and cross-genre world of orchestra music.

Rap School

The Louisville Orchestra Rap School is expanding upon its successful pilot implementation of working with young artists to write and create their own rap and perform with the LO. This residency-based program is focused on social justice and community action through local youth creating and performing rap with the LO. In partnership with Jecorey “1200” Arthur, local social justice educators and artists, and the local rap group The Real Young Prodigy’s, the LO Rap School is a hub for students using rap as a means for community activism. Students will receive lessons and coaching throughout the fall and spring, tackling a civic issue or problem they want to address together in their lyrics. A program unlike any orchestra program in the country creates a community of young musician-leaders who will connect and participate with the LO in new ways using the orchestra as their means for creating change in the community.

LO Conducting School

This young conductor program is presented in association with JCPS schools with limited individual enrollees. Students engage with LO Music Director Teddy Abrams and other guest conductors to learn the art of conducting through one-on-one sessions and masterclasses. Participants have the opportunity to conduct the Louisville Orchestra during the annual MakingMUSIC concert series.

Young Artist Competition

The Association of the Louisville Orchestra, Inc. invites young musicians from grades 5 to 12 to compete for cash awards and for the opportunity to perform as soloists with the Louisville Orchestra. Read More
