Elisa Spalding

It is with the deepest sadness that we share the news that Lisa Spalding passed away on Friday, April 12, 2019. For information, please link to a memorial page in her honor: ELISA SPALDING

A Louisville native, second violinist Elisa “Lisa” Spalding has been a member of the Louisville Orchestra since 1975. Ms. Spalding has been a long-term private lessons teacher at Gittli Music Studios along with her involvement in the Louisville Orchestra. She has been teaching violin students from age 4 all the way up to adults for over 25 years. She is also a member of the Commonwealth String Quartet. Ms. Spalding earned a violin performance degree from the University of Louisville. She studied under Ruth French (The Louisville Academy of Music, the Louisville Orchestra) and Rubin Sher (the Louisville Orchestra).

In her free time, Ms. Spalding enjoys showing Basset Hounds (at dog shows). Her favorite musical group is Led Zeppelin (because she toured with them!) and her favorite composer is Shostakovich. In Ms. Spalding’s opinion, being a musician is all about variety: “It’s something different every day.” Her piece of advice for young musicians is “Try everything that you’re interested in and find your passion.”
