Radical Romanticism. Creating passionate music that is brilliantly crafted, Robert Schumann was still a tortured soul who died in an asylum. For this work, his most innovative symphony, Schumann fused 4 movements of a traditional symphony into one flow of music in a move that surprised the music-loving public of his time. Though the music sounds passionate, even feverish, — the form is brilliantly crafted with a complex architecture that carries the piece through a revolutionary structure. Teddy Abrams will lead us through the puzzle and illuminate the genius of this piece with his explanations and examples from the stage before conducting a full performance of the work.
