MUSIC W/out BORDERS AT THE OGLE CENTER: THE SOLDIER’S TALE

Saturday, March 7, 2020 7:30pm

Event Description

SAT 7 MAR 2020:: The Louisville Orchestra presents a world premiere presentation of an age-old story.

Russian composer Igor Stravinsky’s folklore masterpiece The Soldier’s Tale (L’histoire du soldat) is reimagined with the composer himself in the role of the narrator. The main characters in the story are cast as puppets and a live dancer.
Manipulating two puppets, the arch-creator plays out a drama in which the naive young soldier-musician struggles with the force of the wiser, older, fame-and-fortune obsessed devil.

Who will prevail? The innocent one or the corruptor? Which Stravinsky will survive the story? The soul of the artist is at stake…

Utilizing elements of the picaresque and commedia dell’arte, this allegorical version of The Soldier’s Tale is inspired by the vision of director/performer David Bridel and his company The Clown School. The performance features puppets by master puppeteer Bob Beuth. Produced by Catherine Farrington Garcia.
