Coffee: Walton + Britten

Friday, March 31, 2017 @ 11:00 am

Violinist Augustin Hadelich  plays Benjamin Britten’s Violin Concerto, a moving elegy to lost friends and heros of the Spanish Civil War. And it took 30 years for William Walton to bring the parlor entertainment of Façade to the concert hall. Originally created as accompaniment to poems by Dame Edith Sitwell, Façade is still a sort of crazy scandal — mocking and absurd — but audiences still eat it up!

WILLIAM BYRD (arr. Muhly):  Miserere Mei
BENJAMIN BRITTEN:  Violin Concerto No. 1 /  Augustin Hadelich, violin
ANNA CLYNE:    Masquerade
WILLIAM WALTON:  Façade / Chad Sloan, narrator
SIR HUBERT PARRY:  Jerusalem

9:45AM:  Complimentary Coffee Service opens
10AM:   CONCERT TALK (30 minutes) is free to ticket holders in Whitney Hall. Hosted by Daniel Gilliam from WUOL-FM with featured guest violinist AUGUSTIN HADELICH.
