CLASSIC: DON QUIXOTE + OTHER JOURNEYS

Saturday, November 23, 2019 8:00pm

Event Description

23 NOV 2019 :: Featuring LO principal cellist Nicholas Finch as the intrepid Don, Strauss’ virtuoso piece for cello and orchestra is one of his most profound works. Equally comic and philosophical, the hero of this fairy-tale draws us into our own deepest emotions. Plus, British composer Anna Clyne writes of spiritual and creative “turbulence” as her Night Ferry travels through winds and waves in a vivid journey.

We welcome guest conductor Vinay Parameswaran for his LO debut. Mr. Parameswaran is the associate conductor of the Cleveland Orchestra. In this role, he leads the Cleveland Orchestra in several dozen concerts each season at Severance Hall, Blossom Music Festival, and on tour. He also serves as music director of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra.

CONCERT TALK: Starting at 6:45PM in Whitney Hall, the LO, together with WUOL, offers a free, pre-concert discussion hosted by radio program direction Daniel Gilliam.

Felix MENDELSSOHN:  The Hebrides (“Fingals Cave”)
Anna CLYNE:  Night Ferry
Richard STRAUSS:  Don Quixote

VINAY PARAMESWARAN, guest conductor
NICHOLAS FINCH, cello
