Position Title:                     Publicity and Social Media Manager, Louisville Orchestra
Status:                                Full-Time, Exempt
Reports to:                         Director of Marketing
Job Summary:                   The Publicity and Social Media Manager brings to life the brands, projects, and vision through the development of content to be used across all promotional and earned media channels both digital and traditional to create compelling and effective communication supporting all aspects of the Louisville Orchestra.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Include but not limited to:

  • Create a monthly content calendar for all communication channels, track and report monthly analytics, and make recommendations for improved visibility
  • Develop and maintain relationships with print, television, radio, and online press outlets locally and regionally
  • Work with the Director of Marketing and PR to develop story angles to pitch to journalists and manage active stories by providing interview and support resources
  • Manage media office including responding to requests for photos, video, interviews, and presentations; and scheduling photographers and videographers for captures; maintaining photo and video files, and maintaining and updating institutional factsheets
  • Develop and update media press list. Write and distribute press releases to the appropriate media sources
  • Draft, edit, and format social media updates, taglines, product and service descriptions, website content (pages, posts, site structure, updates), publications, features, email newsletter, scripts, and other written materials for the Louisville Orchestra
  • Prepare, proofread, and distribute all email marketing campaigns and develop & maintain distribution lists
  • Develop key relationships within the travel and visitors’ bureaus in Louisville and Southern Indiana with a goal of enhancing local community support and participation in the LO
  • Update and maintain community calendar listing on local and regional event sites. Monitor and maintain online profiles (Google, Yelp, LinkedIn, GoToLouisville, SoIn Tourism, Kentucky Performing Arts, etc)
  • Embrace other content writing, editing, proofreading, and posting responsibilities as needed
  • Maintain and inventory digital and collateral marketing materials, including photos, videos, bios, advertising assets, and graphics
  • Attend concerts and events as a representative of the LO
  • Embrace other content and contact planning and metrics responsibilities as needed

 Administration and Operational Support

  • Participate in weekly marketing and communications, all-team, and active projects meetings
  • Ensure the timely submission of expenses and invoices
  • Embrace other administrative and operational support responsibilities as needed

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent writing skills with the versatility to engage with a variety of target audiences and channels
  • Moderate to expert level knowledge of classical music and orchestra industry
  • Understanding of social media platforms, trends, best practices, and experience with publishing tools including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube/Vimeo, Instagram
  • Demonstrated experience developing a network of media/press contacts and success in garnering earned media
  • Ability to identify and promote newsworthy stories and events
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Pro
  • Proficiency in, or ability to learn, Wordfly (email) and WordPress (website)
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public
  • Ability to calculate figures to manage a budget
  • Ability to apply high-level reasoning skills including defining problems, data collection, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions
  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated
  • Attention to detail, including excellent proofreading skills
  • Schedule flexibility and willingness to work evenings and weekends for concerts is required Possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive
  • Physically able to lift 25lbs. unassisted
  • Must have a positive attitude, be able to work as part of a high-functioning team in a fast-paced environment, and possess a passion for performing as well as a strong desire to bring them to audiences.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Integrated Marketing, Arts Management or related degree
  • 3-5 years experience in the communications initiative arena –
  • Performing arts experience as a student, amateur or professional
